MWG Magazine – Winter 2021

Definitely what a year we are having. Each day we find out how many people have contracted the virus and how many have died. We are being offered 2 vaccines to combat the virus and over 80% of Canadians have been vaccinated. Different vaccines have been around for years and I remember having the smallpox vaccine when I was younger. For me, I have had a lot of reactions to medicines and have allergies against some so my choice was to not have the vaccine. I have already had COVID so maybe I am protected but it is a choice I have made.

We have a war brewing in Afghanistan and we are welcoming their citizens into our country and there is still more to come. We welcome immigrants from war torn countries. My ex-husband wouldn’t have been here if they hadn’t with the 1956 Hungarian revolution. My parents both came here from Hungary because they needed workers and Canada give them a chance to have a home here. Canada opens its doors to people in need.

We had our three contests – Young Voices, Seniors and Poetry and it was such a success. The winners are being published in Peel Weekly News and the Indigo gift certificates have all been sent out. Our anthology is in being printed and we should have it soon. 2019 we had a Young Voices contest and 2020 we had the #ApartTogether and the submission count is expanding. Even our member judges are thanking me for having them read the recent submissions.
