It was an unforgettable day
Attending a prayer session in the monastery
Watching a herd of yaks cross the field
Mount Everest turning pink at sunset
After dinner, I retired to my room
Only to find a mouse looking up at me
I told the owner in my basic Nepali
There is a mouse in my room!
He shrugged his shoulders and said
It cannot be helped, we are in the wilderness…
He had my Sherpa guide chase it out
I wiped down everything with disinfectant
Then gingerly slipped into my sleeping bag
Needless to say
I hardly slept for fear
The mouse would return
It was an unforgettable night
